50年代,中国科学院地质研究所的刘鸿允教授,以古生物地层学的理论为指导,以当时的地质资料(主要是古生物地层学资料)为基础,编制了第一部《中国古地理图》。最近几年,武汉地院的王鸿桢教授,以大地构造学的活动论和发展阶段论的理论为指导,在现有的地质资料(主要是全国二十万分之一的地质区测资料)基础上,编制了又一部《中国古地理图集》,不久将可问世。
