冻土蠕变及强度性能是冻土力学最重要的内容之一,它是寒区工程建设中地基和基础设计的基本依据。由于寒区军事与民用工程建设的需要,苏联早在本世纪30年代初(Tsytovich,1930)、北美在50年代初(ACFEL,1952)就开始进行冻土强度研究,并逐步建立了冻土强度与蠕变理论。随着寒区工程建设的发展及人工冻结技术在采矿工程中的应用,我国在60年代初也开始了冻土强度研究。但我国比较系统地进行冻土强度和蠕变研究是在70年代开始的,主要包括下述三方面工作:
