杜光华于1946年7月任东北民主联军第四纵队十师师长,他素以作风顽强、骁勇善战而威震敌胆。 1915年,杜光华出生在四川省阆中县天林乡杨寺垭村一个贫苦的农民家庭。到了该上学的年龄,可他却在割草放牛,吃糠咽菜,过着贫困的生活。1932年10月,苦大仇深的杜光华参加了共产党领导的震撼川北的升保农民暴动,并光荣地加入了中国共产党。次年2月,杜光华被编入红军第四方面军,从此开始了他的戎马生涯。
