平和于明正德十三年(1518年)置县,位于漳州市西南部,介于厦门特区和汕头特区之间,与闽粤两省八县毗邻,面积2334平方公里,人口57.8万,辖16个乡镇(场)和1个省级工业园区,为国家级生态示范区、全国地标第一县、省县域经济发展十佳县、省旅游综合改革试点(示范)县和新兴旅游县。
