立,建始也;冬,终也,即冬天自此开始,要开始将收获的作物储藏起来了。每年的立冬时间大约是公历11月7日或8日。立冬过后,白昼时间继续减少,夜晚将更加漫长。这时,我国的东三省及西部青藏高原等地早已迎来白雪皑皑的景象,与此形成强烈对比的是华南大地,尤其是位于北回归线以南、地处热带北缘的海南岛。这里仍然是鸟语花香,虫鸣蛙叫,生机盎然,似乎冬天向来与海南岛无缘。
