湖南城市现代化肇始于19世纪末。区分为传统的政治军事中心转变为工商业城市、通商口岸的开放启动了城市现代化的进程、旧式工商业城市转型为现代城市以及新的工业的兴起造就新的现代化城市等类型。到1949年,湖南城市的工商业获得一定的发展,逐步由传统的政治中心转变为工商业中心,城市公共事业和文化事业建立并获得发展,市民的参与意识增强并形成机制,湖南城市奠定了它的现代化初步基础。
Hunan’s urban modernization began in the late 19th century.
