Type I (insulin-dependent) diabetes is a common cause of death in humans and the world. It is reported that in some European and American white people, the incidence of type I diabetes is 4.7 to 39.5 per 100 000 per year on average, and the cumulative incidence (20 years) is 142 to 573 per 100,000. At present, people’s understanding of type 1 diabetes is changing. The evidence accumulated over the past decade shows that type 1 diabetes is in most cases formed through a destructive autoimmune mechanism that is genetically determined (possibly triggered by environmental factors).
