廖耀湘,字建楚,湖南邵阳人。黄埔军校第六期毕业,后又入法国陆军大学深造。在其军旅生涯中,主要任职于蒋介石嫡系部队。抗日战争中曾任新二十二师副师长、师长、新六军军长。在与日军作战中善打硬仗,屡建战功。解放战争中任东北国民党军第九兵团和西进兵团司令,辽沈战役中兵败被俘。1961年被特赦。自幼向往军旅生活,志在斩将擎旗,先后就读于著名的黄埔军校和法国陆军大学,具有良好的军事素养
