法兰克福学派的主要代表人物阿多尔诺和霍克海默在其重要著作《启蒙辩证法》中,用较大的篇幅集中探讨了晚期资本主义社会文化工业中的广告问题。他们将广告视为文化工业整体的一个重要组成部分。由于他们对文化工业持一种严肃的批判和否定态度,因而对作为文化工业重要形式之一的广告也必然予以拒斥,并据此提出了他们的广告批判理论。
Adorno and Horkheimer, the main representatives of the Frankfurt school, concentrated their discussion on the issue of advertising in the late capitalist social and cultural industries in their important book Enlightenment Dialectics. They view advertising as an integral part of the cultural industry as a whole. Due to their serious criticisms and negative attitudes toward the cultural industry, they are bound to be rejected as one of the important forms of the cultural industry. Based on this, they put forward their theories of advertising criticism.
