I did not believe my ears, I suspiciously got it wrong, and said half an hour ago we talked about her in the Translators’ Association. How could such a thing happen? But Teacher Lin really left us. I am not a student of Mr. Lam, nor is she a colleague, nor have I ever worked in a flat, but she has been taught, caring, helping and encouraging her since she had had the chance to meet her 30 years ago. How can I not be surprised and sad! I met Mr. Lin more than 30 years ago for translating “World History.” At that time, I was the leader of the French translation group of East China Normal University, and it seemed that Master Lin was borrowed from the HKUST and was responsible for reviewing our translations by the Shanghai People’s Publishing House. The first impression she gave me was a middle-aged woman who was young and energetic. She was passionate and energetic. She spoke with feelings and no works, she was competent and clueful, and very cordial. At that time, she was about 50, and I just got assigned to Shanghai from Beijing Foreign Studies University. In those days, someone like me who was 30, was a translator and was young. I am impressed, teacher Lin contrasts her
