锅水碱度是工业锅炉的一项重要水质指标,碱度过低,易使锅炉受热面结生水垢;碱度过高,则易影响蒸汽品质、对受热面产生腐蚀。在用锅炉碱度通常每天至少要检测一次,目前使用较多的检测方法是pH试纸和酸液滴定。司炉人员通常使用pH试纸与锅水水样的颜色反应即色标来测定pH值大小(pH<10碱性偏低,pH>12碱性偏高),间接判定锅水碱度是否合格。而实际上锅水pH值合格并不等于锅水碱度合格,锅水pH值不合格也并不等于锅水碱度不合格;二是pH试纸由于受环境、温度、湿度、寿命等因素影响会产生误差或失效造成误判;再者,由于pH试纸色标的多元性,尤其是pH值在10~12间色标颜色区别较小,而每个人对色彩辨别的差异也会增加对pH值判别误差,从而导致对碱性高低的判别误
