Production and use of baculoviruses 1. Isolated standardized baculoviruses In field applications, it is important to consider only the use of purified and fully standardized formulations. The importance of this prerequisite has been emphasized many times (111, 117, 118, 119, 121, 123). The caveat is based on the fact that insects are often infected with a complex virus, and only one of them may be a baculovirus. Other viruses that are infected are typically polyhedrosis, picorovirus and parvovirus, and all of these viruses are known to have some biochemical and physiological similarities to the viruses found in vertebrates.
