Reasonable urban-scale distribution is the most important part of the process of urbanization. The distribution of cities is too concentrated or too scattered, which is detrimental to economic development. This paper, for the first time, uses cross-border panel data to examine the relationship between service trade and city size distribution and finds that the service trade under the full sample makes urban distribution more concentrated. However, there are differences between OECD countries and non-OECD countries. Promote a more decentralized distribution of cities in OECD countries, which is related to the stage of economic development in which the two types of countries are located in the global value chain. The conclusion of this paper is of great significance to China’s current development of service trade and the optimization of urban system.
