(一) 吃饭、穿衣、住房、行路,是人们生活的基本要素。社会主义的根本任务是解放和发展生产力,逐步提高人民群众的物质和文化生活水平,让大家过得幸福美满、健康向上。为此,就要一心一意把经济搞上去。报纸作为党和人民的宣传工具,就要为发展经济创造良好的舆论环境,搞好经济宣传,如同人们离不开衣食住行那样,一天也不能缺少,且要花大力气搞好。邓小平同志倡导的“一个中心,两个基本点”的基本路线,为我们指明了建设有中国特色的社会主义的康庄大道。这个“以经济建设为中心”的指导思想,也是我们新闻报道所必须坚持的一条基本原则。如何联系实际,深入浅出、具体形象地宣传好这个“中心”,意义极其重大。

The fundamental task of socialism is to liberate and develop productive forces and gradually raise the material and cultural living standards of the masses of the people so that everyone may live a happy, healthy and progressive life. To this end, we must wholeheartedly pursue the economy. As an propaganda tool for the party and the people, newspapers must create a good public opinion environment for economic development and do a good job of economic propaganda. Just as people can not live without food, clothing and shelter, they can not be short of one day and should make great efforts to do a good job. The basic line of “one center and two basic points” advocated by Comrade Deng Xiaoping pointed out to us the broad road of building socialism with Chinese characteristics. This guiding principle of “taking economic construction as the center” is also a basic principle that our news reports must uphold. How to relate to reality and explain profound theories in simple language? It is extremely significant to promote this “center” concretely and vividly.
