新闻背景,指有关新闻事实的历史和环境的材料,是新闻发生和发展的历史背景和现实的环境。新闻背景也是事实,但不属新闻事实本身,它只是用来说明和烘托新闻事实。新闻背景用得恰到好处,可以阐明新闻主题,说明新闻事实产生的具体条件与起因,揭示实质,使受众全面正确地理解新闻内容;可衬托、突出和深化新闻主题,使受众获得深刻的印象,可以巧妙地表明记者的立场、观点,代替作者议论,使新闻价值“增值”;还可丰富新闻内容,使之充实饱满、富有立体感。
