蒲慕明,生在大陆、长在台湾、留学于美国,是一个深受中国文化熏陶,热爱中国的美籍华裔知名神经科学家。他长期在美国加州大学工作,在知识创新工程的感召下加盟中科院,1999年11月27日就任中国科学院神经科学研究所所长,成为我国研究所第一位美籍华裔所长。他身兼两职,穿梭于太平洋两岸,可称“飞天”所长。但是,“飞天”所长的工作却能够落地生根。在他的领导下仅仅经过一年的努力,该所已经初具规模,并且在全国性的竞争中拿到了国家“973”重大科研项目。由于他既有国外科学研究经历,又了解国内的科研情况,本刊特派记者就怎样培养世界一流科学家以及他的办所方略等两个重大问题进行了专访。蒲所长以自己的亲历亲闻,袒言其是、开诚布公、针贬时弊。听他发自肺腑之忠言,却不觉得有逆耳之感。相信你在悉心阅读本文之后,一定会有所获益。——编者
Pu Muming, born in mainland China, grew up in Taiwan and studied in the United States, is a Chinese-American famous neuroscientist deeply influenced by Chinese culture and loves China. He has long been working in the University of California, joining the Chinese Academy of Sciences under the inspiration of the Knowledge Innovation Project. On November 27, 1999, he became director of the Institute of Neuroscience at the Chinese Academy of Sciences and became the first Chinese-American director at the Institute of Chinese Studies.
