Lead has a toxic effect on the human central nervous system, and its mechanism of action may mimic or mobilize calcium and activate protein kinases, and destroy the blood-brain barrier. Lead is more likely to cause learning disabilities and behavioral deficits in children due to imperfect brain development in children.
