The Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce was established in 1970 under the name “Singapore China Merchandise Import and Export Chamber of Commerce,” composed of businesses that specialize in or run Chinese goods. The main purpose of its establishment is to assist and cooperate with the development of the country’s commerce and economy, to promote mutual understanding among members and feelings of the members of the association, to discuss and solve common problems faced by all through consultations, and to safeguard the common interests of Chinese commodity managers. In order to meet the needs of the rapidly developing economic and trade relations between China and New Zealand, the Chamber of Commerce revised its constitution and changed its name in April 1993. The new constitution provides that: all directly or indirectly involved in China’s trade,
