In the recent Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, DVD (digital video disc) system is only demonstrated, but in the near future, users will be able to use these machines. Several companies, including Toshiba America Products, Philips Electronics, Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. and Nissim, are promoting DVD technology. Toshiba actually demonstrated prototype DVD players. The player uses a new high-capacity CD-ROM standard that supports DVDs that accommodate 133 minutes of video or 4.7GB of digital data on one side, and DVD systems that provide backward compatibility with existing CDs. Toshiba plans to introduce two DVD players by September of this year: SD-3006, fluorescent display, priced at $ 699; SD-1006, diode display, sold
