In previous editorial studies, the emphasis was on the research of the editing process. However, the editors’ role of editing, in comparison, did not pay enough attention. To some extent, this phenomenon has affected the further development of editorial research. The absence of a systematic review of the universal behavioral characteristics and social values of editors as important actors in social life has led to the current experience of editors studying the superficial individual editors, which has inevitably led editorial research to the point of misunderstanding . It is undeniable that summarizing the editorial experience accumulated during the editing process has certain practical significance for the establishment of editing science. However, it is far from enough to establish the discipline system of editing science without studying the characteristics and functions of editing characters. Therefore, this article makes a point of discussion on editors’ roles and their social functions from the perspective of communication, and tries to give some thought to the editors who are interested in establishing the subject system of editorship.
