新世纪伊始;2001年1月8日上午9点整,西部大开发基础设施建设重点项目——西康铁路开通,交付临管运营。西康铁路（西安-安康）北起陇海线西安枢纽新丰镇编组站,向南跨灞河,沿浐河、经引镇穿越秦岭,再顺乾佑河、旬河南下,经柞水、镇安、旬阳与襄渝线吕河站接轨;并增建第2线引入安康东编组站至安康站。吸引范围包括临潼、西安、长安、柞水、镇安、山阳、旬阳和安康等近10个县市。
