This article presents an overview of the 44th meeting of the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR). The topics discussed at this conference are: (1) sources of irradiation; (2) dosimetry of radionuclides; (3) effects of radiation on the environment; (4) DNA repair and mutagenesis; (5) genetic effects; 6) Epidemiological assessment of radiation-induced cancers; (7) Compound effects of radiation and other factors; (8) Chernobyl: local dose and effect, where “effects of radiation on the environment” and “Chernobyl Lee: Local Dosage and Effect ”as the topics for discussion in the conference. The committee considered these issues as the most important issues requiring further study. It is suggested that further study should be conducted and special consideration should be given to new materials. It is necessary to continue to pay attention to the collection of data on the level of radiation exposure in various countries in order to obtain the more representative values and the scope of their changes worldwide. New information on radiobiology and epidemiological studies should be reviewed to improve understanding of the effects of radiation and the risks involved.
