Speeches and Rhetoric Nowadays the English language community generally divides the English style (or style body) into two categories: oral body and written body. However, practice shows that such a division is out of date. The drawback is that the real thing is difficult: verbal body is not limited to oral form, and the written body is not limited to written form. For example, stylistic style used in speeches, reports and official conversations in formal occasions can not be classified as colloquialisms but should be written. The inaugural speech of the U.S. president is a kind of speech on a specific occasion. Live audience up to millions of people, and broadcast live at home and abroad. The American people and countries all over the world always have endless expectations for the new president. The inaugural speech of the president is the first answer given by the new government to the public. In his inaugural speech, the president should express his own ideal of running the country, analyze the difficulties and challenges the country faces, announce its own agenda and how to realize the hope of the people. A survey by major media shows that most Americans are satisfied and very satisfied with Obama’s inauguration speech. This article intends to make a stylistic analysis of Obama’s inaugural speech from the perspectives of the use of rhetorical devices in speech, vocabulary and syntax, and discusses the linguistic art and educational implications of this speech.
