The Industrial Pioneering Work in China In 1943, Fan Xudong saw victory in the Anti-Japanese War. In order to quickly establish a strong national chemical industry after the War of Resistance, he proposed an ambitious and insightful construction plan and made recommendations to the Kuomintang government. However, the Kuomintang government has no interest in the major issues related to the national economy and people’s livelihood. Fan Xudong finally became anxious and sick and died of illness in Chongqing. He had never forgotten the unfinished business of the national chemical industry, and left his widow for the water conservancy worker on his deathbed: “Hold together and work hard to advance!” At the memorial service of Fan Xudong, Comrade Mao Zedong delivered the slogan of “Industrial Pioneering, Work in the Chinese”.
