In October 2002, at the age of 67, Hazi Aimaite retired from the position as chairman of the Literature Association of Xinjiang. He pledged to devote his time and energy to his painting, so that more people in the world could better understand the scenery and culture of the autonomous region, and also see for themselves how fine art is flowering among the Uygur people of China’s far west.
