Romania used to be the gateway to the Turkish empire in Europe, where the classical and the modern have the perfect combination. Instead of lingering in the magnificent castle and meandering Danube, I spent a whole year in the remote Maramures, photographing the most authentic survival of the locals and the Romanian cultural traditions that are about to die out in the 21st century. There is no other place that allows me to observe in depth the passing of the winter, the spring, the slow cycle of the four seasons and the lack of withered and dead surroundings, but more so that I can feel the pulse of life from men, women, animals and land. These photos belong to the last lyric of Romania until the Western consumer society and the pace of globalization arrived.
