As one of the birthplaces of the Chinese civilization,Xi’an carries great weight in terms of its status and influence in China’s antique market.The local antique market,coming into form early last century,spreads in three downtown parts:one is around the Shaanxi Provincial Governor’s Office and the Beiyuanmen area where Hui antique dealers inhabit;another one is around the office of Governor-General of Shaanxi and Gansu and the Nanyuanmen area where Han gentry and antique dealers live;the last one is the old street market to the east and south of the Bell Tower.Beiyuanmen and Nanyuanmen are the two more important ones and the latter is the largest of the three.The article is about stories of the Beiyuanmen market.
