Of particular concern is the conflict between youth and adult society as a community that is likely to result in social exclusion. The perspective is based on a long-term sociological survey of young people in 12 regions of the Russian Federation since 1990. This article is part of the ongoing “Youth Integration and Social Exclusion” project. The article uses the concept of “integration” and “exclusion” to assess in detail the conflicts that young people face in the labor market and the plight they face, such as unemployment, violation of labor rights and deteriorating employment. The impact of these factors on the motivation of young people from 1990 to 1998 has also been assessed.
