果戈理在《可怕的复仇》、《维》、《狂人日记》等七篇作品中高度统一地构建了一个模式化的世界:主人公无父无母孤身一人,由于某种激情而被恶魔力量引诱开始堕落,堕入一个隔绝而激荡的时空内不能自拔,最终精神错乱而死。梦化的超自然历险、梦境与呓语是这一时空的外在形式,而双重意识的消长斗争是其内在的运行机制。这一时空似乎就是一个外化的心理时空,或者说,是个体心理在现实世界的投影。因而,称之为“个体世界”。
