黄翠芬同志是人民解放军军事医学科学院基础医学研究所分子遗传学研究室主任、研究员。一九八四年十月四日,中华人民共和国中央军事委员会主席邓小平发布命令,授于她‘模范科学工作者”荣誉称号。黄翠芬早年随家人侨居美国。一九五○年,新中国成立之初,她怀着强烈的爱国热望,告别了亲人,回到祖国的怀抱,满腔热忱地投入祖国社会主义建设行列。三十余年如一日,她奋发努力,艰苦奋斗,在医学科学研究中,攻克一个又一个难关,获得了丰硕的成果,为军事医学事业的发展作出了可贵的贡献。一九七八年以来,她领导筹建了我军第一个分子遗传学研究室,建立和掌握了二十三项新技术、新方法,获得十项科研成果,其中两项为国内首创。黄翠芬同志具有崇高的革命思想,是又一个知识分子的先进典型。她“视名利淡如水,看事业重如山”的可贵品质,在事业上甘当“人梯”、勇于献身的高尚风格,都闪耀着时代精神的光辉,是每个共产党员,每个科技工作者应当学习的榜样。黄翠芬同志的事迹已在许多报刊上发表,在人民群众中广为传扬。本刊这一期的封面刊载她的近照,同时,发表她写给在美国亲人的这封信。
