语义网是设想中的下一代万维网。其基本思想是在网络信息的创作和发布中嵌入机器可理解的、代表某类知识的元数据,使计算机具备更强的能力去协作性地“理解”和处理现在仅仅是进行显示的数据。从信息组织的视角看,其最终目标是要将人类知识编织成一个巨大网络,并以机器处理的方式来实现它。也可以说,是要将现在的万维网改造成一个存取便捷的巨大知识空间,万维网的潜力因此被充分挖掘。知识经济时代,语义网的意义不言而喻。
The Semantic Web is the next generation of the World Wide Web envisioned. Its basic idea is to embed machine-understandable meta-data representing a certain type of knowledge in the creation and distribution of web-based information, giving computers the ability to collaboratively “understand” and manipulate data that is now merely displayed. From the perspective of an information organization, its ultimate goal is to weave human knowledge into a vast network and to implement it in a machine-processed manner. It can also be said that to transform the current World Wide Web into a vast and accessible knowledge space, the potential of the World Wide Web is therefore fully exploited. In the era of knowledge economy, the meaning of semantic web is self-evident.
