1948年12月1日发行的旧人民币上的“中国人民银行”六字是董必武同志写的.1955年3月1日发行、流通至今的新人民币上这六个字既不是董必武,也不是冀朝鼎同志,而是由原曾在中国人民银行总行工作的马文蔚同志题写的.南汉宸行长发现他的书法很好,嘱他写了“中国人民银行”六字,交付印刷部门使用,但从未透露此事.马文蔚现年81岁,山西阳曲人,大学文化程度,工隶书,1949年入总行工作,1952年调陕西省分行工作.由于“左”的路线影响,蒙受不白之冤,三中全会后得到平反,在原籍定居.笔者5月17日曾拜访过他,他亲自讲了题写经过.
