A promoter-trap technique was used to identify and isolate a gene that is highly specific for expression in the tapetum and anther cells of the Arabidopsis thaliana. The full length of the gene was identified as 4.4kb, encoding a highly homologous protein with RNAhelicaseA. Evidence from histochemistry and in situ hybridization suggests that the gene transcribes, translates and functions in situ only in a few cells in the vascular bundle.
