Tokyo is one of the three global cities and has always been a symbol of Japan’s modernization. With the post-war economic development in Japan, Tokyo’s urban space in rapid industrialization is evolving from a traditional concentric industrial city to a decentralized, multi-center network of post-industrial cities. At present, Tokyo has become a global city dominated by knowledge-based economy and has shown the trend of suburbanization of “decentralized network structure ”. In contrast, Shanghai is still in the late industrialization stage. In recent years, the tertiary industry as a share of GDP, long-term halt, urban planning is relatively lagging behind, showing a clear bottleneck effect. Changing the mode of economic growth, formulating corresponding urban planning, standardizing land use and protection, promoting the process of suburbanization, and then becoming a new global city in East Asia have become the key to Shanghai’s future development. Therefore, the experience of Tokyo urban space development has a very important reference for Shanghai
