Wire and metal fibers have traditionally been produced mechanically. The few wires or wire products currently on the market are all made by rolling, drawing, hammering, extruding and machining. However, it should be noted that direct casting of wire and its products has occurred - some in the pilot phase and some already in production. There is no doubt that the organization and properties of foundry products are often quite different from those produced by mechanical methods; such differences often have great advantages. Direct casting of metal fibers is not a new process. The patents relating to this process date back to at least 1882.
