The friction coefficient of the gear tooth surface is based on the ideal involute curve. In practice, however, all gears have errors, thus increasing the friction between the teeth. Therefore, the friction coefficient in the table must be corrected. Toothed deviations from the correct involute tooth size, depending on the accuracy level of the gear. The higher the gear accuracy level, the smaller the tooth profile error and the friction coefficient to be corrected. Here, a simple chart is plotted that correlates the gear accuracy level with the friction coefficient correction. Use this chart to find the effect of a tooth profile error quickly.
