Genetic manipulation has been used in cotton plants that are resistant to kanamycin (an antibiotic). Dr Paul Unbeck of Agracetus (Middleton, Wisconsin) told the American Agronomy this month in New Orleans that he has used the Ti plasmid vector to transfer a gene that encodes antibiotic-resistant properties to some cotton plants. Dr. Unbcck recounted his merit to the American CropScience Society (a team of the American Agricultrual Society). The chairman is Dr. Dwight Tomes. He told the journal, “It has been shown that this antibiotic-resistant gene is present in mature plants and is not evident in itself, and since they can do so, they can do the same in terms of insect resistance, This is an important agronomic issue in cotton. ”
