Treatment with streptokinase increased serum aspartate aminotransferase (SG-OT) and serum alanine aminotransferase (SGPT) concentrations. The authors measured transaminase activity in patients’ blood following streptokinase (SK) treatment of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) to determine its clinical relevance to the incidence of the drug response. The authors investigated 189 patients at the Royal Hospital of Dumfries and Galloway, D and G Hospitals in the Second International Study on Myocardial Infarction (ISIS-2), and a controlled trial of SK, aspirin, and placebo in patients with suspected AMI.
