To investigate the cerebral hemodynamic changes during the intermittent migraine attacks. Methods The transcranial Doppler (TCD) technique was used to detect the blood flow velocity in 120 patients with migraine during intermittent headache. Results The abnormal rate of TCD was 52%. The abnormal changes were mainly the increase of average blood flow velocity, asymmetry of blood flow velocity on both sides and vascular murmur. There was no significant difference between normal and typical migraine (P> 0.05). Conclusion The increased cerebral blood flow velocity may be due to increased vascular tone or arterial lumen stenosis. The appearance of noise murmur contributes to the diagnosis of this disease. TCD changes can not identify typical and common type of migraine.
