This article reviews the historical course of providing for the protection of women’s rights in the realm of international human rights laws, with reference to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. In particular, it intronduces the UN Assembly’s recent achievement, namely the adoption of an optional protocol, whereby individual women have the right to appeal to the Committee for Elimina- tion of Discrimination against Women for en- croachments s on their rights in the signatory states.
