Linoleic acid is the most important prostaglandin precursor in food. In previous experiments, the authors found that adequate intake of linoleic acid in the diet significantly increased gastric mucosal prostaglandin E secretion and inhibited gastric acid output in healthy men. The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between the relative lack of linoleic acid and the formation of ulcers in the diet of patients with duodenal ulcer. METHODS: The study population was 35 males and aged 21 to 79 years (mean, 45 years). Chronic duodenal ulcers were confirmed by endoscopy. No history of peptic ulcer surgery, no administration of steroid anti-inflammatory drugs, histamine Receptor antagonist or prostaglandin similar drugs; otherwise age, social class, smoking history of the same 35 healthy men as the control group. Under local anesthesia, with diameter
