在江苏一带,大型盆栽苏铁冬季必须整盆移入冷室或用稻草包扎越冬。这样不但费工费时,且影响这一季的观赏效果。笔者经过3年的试验,发现在长江下游地区,采用地膜覆盖法,可使苏铁在露地安全越冬。具体操作如下: 在霜降和立冬前后,给露地盆栽的苏铁浇足水。3天后,用塑料薄膜覆盖其根盘,范围与冠径大小等同。然后在薄膜上覆盖一层5厘米厚的土。这样只要冬天的气温在-5℃以上,苏铁即可安全越冬。若温度低于-6℃时,再用草绳将整个树冠束扎起来,避免低温冻害。至来年春分前后去土、放绳,揭开塑料薄膜即可。
