Epidermal growth factor receptor and its ligand are part of the cell proliferation signaling system. There are abnormal expressions of EGFR and its ligands in gliomas. The occurrence and development of gliomas may have the following mechanisms: auto-/paracrine mechanisms of EGFR and its ligands, expression of mutant EGFR with its own TK activity, and tumor angiogenesis.
