梁实秋文艺思想的核心是人性，其既是普遍的，又是二元对立的。文艺的本质就是对这人性的“模仿”，但不是机械的写实，而是创造的想象。文艺的价值则在于以道德伦理陶冶性格。并因此既反对超脱的纯艺术论，又反对阶级斗争的工具论。在文艺创作上则强调“节制”、“内倾”，“表现之合度”和“有纪律的形式”。主张文艺批评首先是一种判断，其尺度必须是常态的纯正的人性。梁实秋的文艺思想是中国现代文学史上一种独具特色的文艺思想。
The core of Liang Shiqiu’s literary thought is human nature, which is both universal and dualistic. The essence of literature and art is the “imitation” of this humanity, but not the mechanical realism but the imagination created. The value of literature and art lies in cultivating the character with moral ethics. Therefore, it opposes the pure art theory of detachment and opposes the instrumentalism of class struggle. In literary and artistic creation, they emphasized “abstinence”, “introvert”, “degree of performance” and “disciplined form.” Advocacy of literary criticism is first of all a judgment, the standard must be normal, pure humanity. Liang Shiqiu’s literary thought is a unique literary thought in the history of modern Chinese literature.
