Successful managers naturally have the potential to become good strategists, but they must continue to develop their talents. CEOs and top management can help identify and promote this talent in the workforce. This article has specifically designed a questionnaire to help test the level of this strategic management capability. Just as Helmut von Moltke, the Prussian military strategist, only issued “instructions” to lower-level commanders, the master of strategic management only provided general outlines of actions for subordinates. Outstanding entrepreneurs and managers cultivate a corporate culture. Under the influence of this culture, their vision concept, business philosophy and business strategy will be carried out by their independent thinking staff.
