David Courtwright， an American history professor sternly describes in his works Forces of Habit， “Since young people are more tolerant of adverse reaction caused by drugs， they naturally even more long for new thrill and are more unlikely to attend to everything at once and are more anxious to imitate their peers. These psychological features easily prompt drug abuse. Thus， these psychological factors should not be neglected especially in materially affluent western and westernizing societies and also in times when people emphasize on individualism and timely pleasure and sex liberalization is surfacing.

In disclosed numbers of cases of youngsters’ taking drugs， the reporter finds such sentences like “it seems too weird if you don’t take it”， “they say it won’t get you addicted”. While from the perspective of drug-taking experience， a high proportion of addicts drop out at a quite young age and have weakened family values and are born in a divorced family.
Valentina， chairman of Russia Anti-Drug Mother Alliance once expressed that， Russian young people today tend to hold serious self-concept and psychological inversion， combined with lack of attention from both schools and the society， thereby increasingly more young people off the track.

Chen Xiangming， Deputy Director of Rehabilitation and Recovery Center of Anhui Province， China， who has engaged in rehabilitation for more than 20 years， openly expresses that， in his communication with numerous drug addicts， he finds that drug contamination can generally go through seven steps below： breaking away from the normal track of life； getting acquainted with some drug contaminators； becoming friends of these contaminators； accepting life attitudes and values of the persons above； sensing that drugs are not as horrible as what has been publicized； coming to have a try； getting addicted. He stresses， “Indicated by the process above， I think that drug contaminating is maximally connected with the outlooks of life and world of the drug addicts themselves as well as their surroundings.” 从事戒毒工作20多年的中国安徽省戒毒康复中心副主任陈向明公开表示，在与诸多吸毒人员的交流中他发现，染毒基本过程可总结为7步，即脱离正常生活轨道；认识社会上一些染毒人员；与这些染毒人员成为朋友；接受这些人的生活态度与价值观；感觉毒品不像宣传的那么可怕；开始尝试；吸毒上瘾。“通过上述过程，我认为染上毒瘾与他自身的人生观、世界观以及周围的环境关系最大。”他强调。

Krista Lisdah， director of Brain Imaging and Neuropsychology Laboratory of University of Wisconsin （Milwaukee） says， brain imaging research data shows that for regular users of marijuana， especially young people， their brain structure undergoes significant abnormalities. Among the subjects of 16-19 years old， if they used increased amount of marijuana in the past year， abnormalities could be observed in their intelligence-related gray matter. According to reports of foreign media， the researchers warn heavy marijuana users at the age of 18 are more likely to be eventually recognized as disability when they’re at 60 years old.
Data from the World Drug Report 2011 shows that 4% of Europeans between 15 and 39 years old die of drug overdose， and in some countries the figure even exceeds 10%. However， in May this year， the Global Synthetic Drug Evaluation Report released by the United Nations reveals that more and more young people are drug addicts， as a result， judicial and health systems across Asia are increasingly challenged.

Moreover， being in a stage of no source of livelihood， young drug addicts choose to obtain drug-related money through theft， robbery and by other illegal means in addition to lying to their parents. Some are also be utilized by offenders for purposes of their drug trafficking. And given the reality of coming marriage and giving birth， the hazards on the part of young female drug addicts， who rises at a higher growth rate than male drug addicts， are huge to both their families and descendants. Furthermore， true cases of “drug abuse accompanied by prostitution” indicate that large numbers of women addicts have access to drug-related money through prostitution. While sexual behaviors incurred by drug injection and those between drug abusers can be transmitted and infected by viruses via blood， AIDS for instance.
