.4 Factors Affecting the Accuracy and Accuracy of Measurement of Strength The residual austenite measured by X-ray diffraction gives reasonably satisfactory accuracy and accuracy if the final diffraction pattern and intensity measurements satisfy the following conditions. They are: (1) Each hkl line of martensite and austenite has a high diffraction intensity, (2) a high peak to back ratio (P / B), (3) Points are sufficiently open and have sufficient resolution, (4) the interference of the overlapped carbide diffraction lines is minimal, (5) there is low throughout the 2 theta scanning range
