INTRODUCTION Soil temperature is controlled not only by meteorological factors and the thermal characteristics of the depth of temperature change during the day, but also by the thermal characteristics of the underlying material. For example, Cartwright found in 1968, 1970 and 1974 that groundwater caused a decrease in the overall daily temperature of the soil within the depth of soil temperature change. Huntley reported in 1978 that shallow groundwater did not affect the magnitude of the change in day-temperature fluctuations. The magnitude of the temperature change due to the effects of shallow groundwater depends on the thickness of the groundwater aquifer, the velocity at which the water flows both horizontally and vertically, and the depth of its water level.
