在素有“五省通衢”美称的徐州,一年前,新闻界出了一件引人注目的新事:苏、鲁、豫、皖四省接壤区的二十三家报社冲破行政区划,联合办起了一张跨省的《经济新闻报》。“经济”类报纸四省都早已有之,为何这张《经济新闻报》特别引人瞩目? 苏、鲁、豫、皖接壤区又称淮海经济区,地貌相似,习俗相通,自古就是一个自然经济区。但是,多年来由于行政区划分割,尽管阡陌相连,经济上的交往却不易。安徽的萧县与江苏的徐州相距仅十多公里。萧县人民吃的酱油是徐州生产的,可是,徐州的酱油却不能就近直运萧县,而要运往几百里外的合肥,再由合肥配发萧县。省际经济交往的隔膜由此可见一斑。改革、开放、搞活经济的形势一到来,这种局面才被打破。接壤区开始了经济的横向联系,银行、工商、物价等部门相继开展协作。这种横向联系,促使干部群众对经济信息产生热切的追求。他们要求了解外部世界,尤其需要了解接壤区内各省的经济信息。一省一市的党报和经济信息报都难以满足这种要求。这就是接壤区跨省《经济新闻报》诞生的背景。
