The great internationalist fighter Bethune, who sacrificed his life for the cause of liberation of the Chinese nation, is admired by millions of our people. Bethune was both a well-known surgeon, a learned revolutionary poet and writer, and wrote some poetry and prose works. On the eve of his anti-fascist struggle in Spain in 1936, he wrote a heroic poem that inspired people to oppose evil fascism. This is the fortieth anniversary of the death of Comrade Bethune on November 12 this year, and his short story “Weeds in Fertile Fields” is chosen for commemoration here. This work was written in 1939 when he worked on selfless dedication in the Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei border area, and was published in the weekly “Sunday Worker” in that year. In this work, Comrade Bethune delineated the image of an old poor peasant in China who loves the motherland and fights the enemy through simple and vivid depictions with full of revolutionary passion. This shows that the author is resolute in his war of resistance against Japan Support and friendship with the Chinese people. This is undoubtedly a historic work which will arouse the interest of the vast majority of our beloved Bethune readers and further learn from him the noble communist spirit that is selfish and dedicated to the interests of the proletarian revolution. The Chinese translation was translated according to the English typeset provided by Mr. Hugh Deane, the New York-U.S.-China Friendship Society.
