Bethune was both a well-known surgeon, a learned revolutionary poet and writer, and wrote some poetry and prose works. On the eve of his anti-fascist struggle in Spain in 1936, he wrote a heroic poem that inspired people to oppose evil fascism. This is the fortieth anniversary of the death of Comrade Bethune on November 12 this year, and his short story “Weeds in Fertile Fields” is chosen for commemoration here. This work was written in 1939 when he worked on selfless dedication in the Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei border area, and was published in the weekly “Sunday Worker” in that year. In this work, Comrade Bethune delineated the image of an old poor peasant in China who loves the motherland and fights the enemy through simple and vivid depictions with full of revolutionary passion. This shows that the author is resolute in his war of resistance against Japan Support and friendship with the Chinese people.
